Our Master’s-level counselling interns offer supervised, Solution-Focused, Single-Session counselling to the community on a sliding fee scale.
Hello, my name is Marcel Monette (pronouns: they/them). I am a Master of Counselling Psychology student at Athabasca University, completing my practicum at Momentum Counselling in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton). For over a decade, I have worked as an Addiction Counsellor in both community and forensic mental health settings, supporting people through complex challenges with compassion and respect.
My approach is grounded in collaboration, curiosity, and care. I draw from solution-focused and motivational interviewing practices, while also exploring acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and internal family systems (IFS) as ways to support clients in building resilience and self-understanding.
Counselling, to me, is about creating a safe and affirming space where each person’s story is valued. I believe in honouring people’s strengths, cultures, and identities while working alongside them to find meaningful next steps in their journey.
I am a Master’s-level counselling student at Yorkville University, currently completing my practicum under supervision. I work from a trauma-informed, non-judgmental perspective and aim to create a counselling environment where clients feel safe, respected, and valued.
I bring experience as a teacher and school counsellor working with youth and hold a Bachelor of Education (2017) with a focus on biology and physical education. This background informs my understanding of development, stress, and emotional well-being.
I believe healing occurs when clients feel supported as they navigate challenges. I am particularly interested in developing my skills in solution-focused therapy and value helping clients recognize their existing strengths and resources. I also incorporate mindfulness and self-care strategies when appropriate to support emotional regulation and resilience. My goal is for clients to leave sessions feeling supported, empowered, and hopeful.
Outside of counselling, I value balance and connection through time spent in nature, including biking and snowboarding. I also enjoy yoga, reading, and gaming, and I share my life with my partner and our dog and a cat. These interests keep me grounded and support my appreciation for well-being, creativity, and meaningful connection.
Hi there, I’m Cameron Remus. I’m currently an intern with Momentum Counselling, where I’m completing my practicum as a Master of Counselling Psychology student with Yorkville University. The foundation of my approach is grounded firmly in the values of compassion, authenticity, and collaboration. This means I will respect and honour the past experiences you bring into session and work with the worldviews you hold to support you in finding ways forward.
In addition to my education, for the past four years I have worked as an addiction counsellor, supporting people experiencing complex addiction and mental health challenges. I operate largely from a solution-focused lens, leveraging your strengths and values to help you adapt to and navigate life’s challenges. Alongside solution-focused therapy, I also integrate strategies from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and motivational interviewing.
I welcome people from all backgrounds and am committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where you can explore, heal, and grow.
My name is Ian Garcia, and I am currently a Master of Counselling Psychology student at Yorkville University. I am a Master’s Level Intern completing the practicum component of my graduate degree. My professional goals are to become a Registered Psychologist in Alberta.
Professionally and academically, I found interest in culturally competent counselling, person-centered approaches, trauma-informed care, solutions-focused, and emotion-focused modalities. I always had a natural curiosity towards hearing and learning from the lived experiences of others. I am utilizing this in my practice to provide empathetic care to all persons, regardless of their concerns, cultural background, gender, sexuality, and any other personifying features and characteristics. Every person deserves the opportunity to heal and progress through their mental health journey.
During my free time, I love watching films (Ratatouille is my favourite!), playing videogames, going to boardgame cafés, attending concerts, watching sports, and going for walks. I am also passionate towards cooking, discovering new cuisines, trying new restaurants in the city, and eating too much ice cream from local creameries.

I’m a Master of Counselling practicum student, and I feel honoured to walk alongside people as they navigate life’s challenges. I believe that you are the expert in your own experiences, and I take a collaborative approach so we can work together on goals that matter most to you.
My focus is always to create a safe, supportive space where you can share openly and feel understood. I work from a strengths-based perspective, helping you build on the skills and resources you already carry. I also care deeply about fostering resilience, so you can move through challenges with greater confidence and hope.
Outside of counselling, I enjoy spending time in nature, walking my dogs, and being with family and friends.
