Working with people; to support them, to listen, to talk, to improve mental health has always been my passion. I believe as individuals we have greater strength and ability than we often give ourselves credit for. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations too overwhelming, confusing, or difficult to even know where to start.
As a therapist and registered social worker, I can help you to improve mental health, feel stronger, or move towards simply feeling better, using evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Strengths Based Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). In addition, I am a Certified Menopause Mental Health Provider and can support individuals navigating perimenopause and menopause.
Reaching out and sharing with a therapist takes great courage. I aim to honor this in my practice by providing a safe, non-judgemental space where we can build a therapeutic relationship. My practice is person-centered, rooted in the belief that every individual has strengths, is unique, and is the expert on their life.
I am committed to my field and practice, always working to learn and improve. As part of this commitment, I am grateful to be part of the team at Momentum. Our team is providing accessible mental health services to our community. Momentum is also growing the field of mental health by providing a place for individuals entering the field to learn and grow. We truly have an exceptional team!
Welcome to Momentum!
My name is Janet VanCaeseele, and I am a Mental Health Therapist and licensed Canadian Certified Counsellor.
I am honored and privileged to have this opportunity to walk alongside others as they work through the challenges they face within their lives. Regardless of everyone’s background and past, I strive to focus on the individual’s potential, strengths, and resilience
to improve their well-being.
My goal as a therapist is to create a safe environment where the client feels valued and understood, that can instil hope. I am passionate in applying a trauma informed approach to empowering individuals to heal from their adversity.
I apply a variety of modalities within my practice including solution focused, somatic experiencing, client centred, attachment based, emotion focused, humanistic, CBT, DBT, ACT, MBCT, and I am certified in EMDR trauma treatment.
I look forward to this opportunity to assist others in seeing their potential and growing within their mental health journey.
My name is Shereen Singh, and I am a Canadian Certified Counselor. Prior to therapy, I have 12 years of experience working in the human services field (group homes, shelters for youth & women, as well as
Children Services). I completed my undergraduate degree in Child & Youth care at MacEwan University, followed by my master’s degree in counselling at City University of Seattle. In my fulltime work, I work with pregnant and parenting teens this includes individual therapy, therapy for co-parenting families, and couples therapy. I also teach/coach at MacEwan university part time, and run my private practice out of Sherwood Park, AB. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my son and family as well as cooking, reading and creating art!
I am a certified EMDR and DBT therapist, and also provide couples therapy using the Gottman (level 1) method. I strive to build a therapeutic relationship with all of my clients using an attachment focused lens, where you feel safe to explore the impacts of past and present experiences of your life!
Hello, my name is Toni (pronouns: they/them). I am a queer second-generation Chinese and Vietnamese immigrant working on amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Edmonton). My professional and educational background focuses on addressing health inequities among racialized and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. I completed my counselling practicum at Momentum and graduated with a Master of Counselling Psychology from Athabasca University. Currently, I am pursuing certification with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I am deeply honored to be a referral therapist at Momentum to provide and advocate for equitable access to mental health care across diverse communities.
As a mental health therapist, my values are grounded in intersectional feminism, anti-oppression, multiculturalism, and social justice. Counselling is a deeply vulnerable process that I have come to understand not only as hard work, but as heart work. Through heart work, I collaborate with clients to create a space of hope building, mutual empathy, and relational joy. I focus on building a client’s capacity for wellness through integrated modalities including relational-cultural theory, solution focused, CBT, DBT, attachment based, internal family systems, and polyvagal theory (regulating the nervous system).
I am deeply honored by the courage it takes for every client to share and weave their stories of hope and healing into our work together. I look forward to supporting you on your journey!
My name is Jesse Howard, and I am a Master of Counselling graduate from the City University of Seattle and a referral therapist at Momentum Counselling. I believe healing occurs within a safe and trusting relationship, whether with oneself, one’s environment, or another person. I also believe that every client is an expert in their own experience and that the counsellor’s main responsibility is to provide structure and guidance as we explore together. From a person centred and strength-based approach, I strive to build caring relationships with clients, understand their needs, help establish goals that suit their personal strengths, and seek available solutions and insights that move us toward our desired therapeutic outcomes.
I strive to ensure that each session will center on the client’s unique and specific needs, often including concerns such as identity, emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, interpersonal conflict, and any other personal and relational challenges the client may be facing. When appropriate I like to explore attachment patterns, early childhood experiences, the impact of social norms, and our relationship to existential concerns, all while prioritizing understanding and validation as we walk together down the path toward healing.
Kellie Symons is excited to embark on her career, transitioning from corporate account management to becoming a counsellor. She has secured an internship position starting in January 2024 and is honoured to learn from and work with the leadership team at Momentum Counselling.
Kellie is eager to become skilled using Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. She strongly believes that all people have the ability, courage and capability to draw from their inner strengths to overcome challenges. Every client has an ability to realize their successes and work towards better lived experiences, grounded by their own meaning-making.
Kellie looks forward to supporting others to find their voice, learn to understand, and leverage their own self-empowerment tools and resources to overcome obstacles that arise in everyday life. She believes there is potential within everyone to build resilience in the face of adversity.
Kellie is commited to supporting Albertans as they begin their healing journey.
Hello! Bonjour! – My name is Micheline (she/her). As a Canadian Certified Counsellor, I’m happy to be working at Momentum as a bilingual (French & English) referral therapist as I believe mental health supports should be accessible to everyone without having to wait.
My desire to help people led me to pursue a French degree in psychology from the University of Alberta. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to lend a hand helping people find employment at the Edmonton Food Bank and volunteer with kids of all ages at my children’s school.
My previous work experience as a Policy Analyst for the Alberta Ministry of Seniors and Community Supports has given me unique insight into the challenges and circumstances older people, people with disabilities, and underprivileged communities may be facing. That being said, the years I spent at home raising my three children helped me realize to what extent people are unique and have different strengths. I am dedicated to meeting my clients where they’re at, getting to know their story, and working together towards their goals. I use a trauma-informed approach that incorporates a variety of counselling modalities including client-centered, solution-focused, mindfulness, CBT and EMDR.
I know seeking counselling is a big step. I am honoured to offer a safe space to accompany people of all backgrounds in their journey.
My name is Erica (she/her) and I completed my Masters of Counselling through Athabasca University in 2022. Prior to graduate studies, I completed a BSc in psychology at MacEwan University, with a focus on behavioural neuroscience.
For the past several years I have worked front lines and facilitated programming for adults experiencing homelessness. This experience has led me to work alongside a variety of people experiencing a wide range of presenting concerns. I believe we all experience different hardships throughout our lives. At the same time, it is my core belief that we all possess unique skills and strengths that can be cultivated to overcome challenges thrown our way.
I use an integrative approach to therapy, meaning that I tailor therapy to fit with your needs and hopes using a variety of evidence-based approaches. Theoretical orientations that I often draw upon are solution focused brief therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, and somatic experiencing therapy. I enjoy working with youth (10+), and adults.
