Love is in the Air!
Love is in the air!
February is the month of love. We need more love! Not only the elusive, romantic notions of love, but self-love, friend-love, family-love, pet-love, career-love, any kind of love will do! From a mental health perspective, self-love is the most important kind of love. There is an old adage that states we cannot love someone or something fully unless we love ourselves.
What is self-love? What do acts of self-love look like? Self-love is when we trust and respect ourselves. When we have healthy boundaries. When we treat our body and mind with kindness and compassion. When we remember that we are doing the best we can with our current circumstances. When our internal dialogue is not damaging or toxic, when we speak to ourselves the way we would someone else we love. I challenge myself frequently to examine my own internal dialogue, it can be shocking. I challenge you to intentionally examine your internal voice this month, and see how you treat yourself! You will be amazed at how quickly you can transform your internal chatter into a nurturing, calming, compassionate friend that we all need. That is self-love.
February is host to Black History Month. This years’ theme is Black Health and Wellness. This month we recognize and celebrate the contributions of Black healthcare practitioners as well as those who contribute to wellness through non-traditional roles such as doulas, midwives and alternative health care practitioners. Thank you for all you do, particularly now when you are needed the most. In keeping with health and wellness, February is Psychology Month! The Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) is celebrating all the ways psychology touches our lives. Momentum would not exist without dedicated psychologists, who provide accessible, quality mental health services, each and every day. To all of our psychologists, past and present, we love you! Thank you for sharing your skills and compassion with our clients throughout the years.
As always, we couldn’t do what we do without you!
