December is the month of GIVING!

Kindness is free. As we enter the final month of 2022 and approach the holiday season, there looms a collective heaviness that is palpable.  Everywhere I look I witness and feel the intense energy surrounding us all.  There are many valid reasons for this, we are inundated with bad news on the daily so I won’t repeat it here.  I want to offer an antidote to this heaviness-kindness. You may be thinking this is overly simplistic or cliché, but it really is just that simple.

I was having a tough day and was rushing on my way home from work to get groceries.  There were only a few checkouts open with long lines. I had a fully loaded cart and noticed the person behind me with only a handful of items.  I asked if they would like to go ahead of me.  Their smile and look of relief made my day.  A simple act of sharing a small kindness turned my mood around for the better.  It was almost shocking how grateful the recipient of my small kindness was, it seemed out of proportion to the gift.  However it led me to think about how rare these acts of kindness can be in tough times, when we need them the most.  It feels good to give, and it doesn’t need to cost anything.  Kindness is free, give it away and watch the magic unfold.

In keeping with the giving theme, 2022 has been a successful year for us at Momentum.  It is also the 10 year anniversary of our incorporation as a society! We have helped a record number of clients and secured much needed funding from our generous funders, namely the Edmonton Community Foundation and the City of Edmonton.  Thanks to their generosity and trust in who we are and what we do, we can continue to offer affordable and accessible counselling in 2023.  Much of our success this year can be attributed to our incredible team.  I have rarely experienced such a dedicated, passionate team and I am grateful they chose Momentum to share their skills and talents.

On behalf of all of us at Momentum, wishing you a wonderful holiday season and hope, health and happiness for 2023!

Please help us help our community.  We need you, more than ever.

As always, we couldn’t do what we do without you!
