Celebrating 2021! It’s the Holiday Season!
Last year as we approached the end of 2020, we were all ready to see it go! We were a year into the pandemic, on the cusp of landing on vaccines. We had endured a year fraught with anxiety, restrictions, social isolation, with seemingly no end in sight.
This holiday season, things are looking a bit brighter. As we are seeing the frighteningly high case counts and impacts on our health care system of early fall starting to ease, we are left to wonder what this holiday season will bring. The uptake in vaccinations have allowed for certain restrictions to be lifted, however it remains risky to enjoy large gatherings and celebrations. Many of us are rethinking our holiday traditions and plans this year. It could look different again this year, but one great way to beat the holiday blues is to create new traditions. It gives us the chance to slow down and simplify our plans, shop local, focus less on purchasing and create more memories. Self care is of the utmost importance. You don’t have to be everything to everyone, it is your holidays too! Particularly for those who are more isolated, reach out to your community. Volunteer, contribute, the gift of giving in any capacity will carry you through even the darkest days.
2021 was a very successful year for us here at Momentum! It was one of the busiest years in our history. We have developed strong partnerships with funders and donors and because of their generous support, we will be able to help even more community members both virtually and in-person next year. Our plan is to slowly reintegrate in-person services in 2022, while we are holding off on our ‘walk-in’ model of service delivery a little while longer, we will be able to support same-day in-person appointments for the first time since the Spring of 2020. Our team is incredibly excited to be together again!
We have also added to our small but mighty team this year, first in the spring with the addition of our amazing Executive Assistant Tracy to help oversee our operations and support our fabulous clinical team. We are also very excited to announce we have a new Clinical Director starting this month! Many of you will know Kimberly Masliuk-Giddings from the Anxiety & Depression and Emotional Regulation groups. She has volunteered with us since her clinical internship in 2016, worked as a Team Lead and is now joining the leadership team! We are incredibly excited to work with Kimberly and to have further support for our clinical programming and team members.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic and the increasing need for affordable, accessible counselling services, our team has persevered and achieved beyond our highest expectations. Thank you for continuing to trust us with your mental health.
As always, we couldn’t do what we do without you!
If you would like to assist us in providing low-cost, quality mental health support, please consider donating. As a registered charity, you will receive a tax receipt. Thanks for helping keep the Momentum!
