November is Men’s Health Awareness Month! Congrats to the Momentum Mental Health Awards Nominees!
Have you heard about our Anchor Men’s Group? Over 60 percent of our clientele identify as male. That is 20 percent higher than the national average for men seeking mental health support. Here is my theory – the secret to our success providing support to men comes from the Anchor Men’s Group. This group has been running since 2014, hosts up to 30 men virtually each week and runs 51 weeks a year! There is no cost to participants thanks to our funders-The City of Edmonton, Living Hope-A Community Plan to Prevent Suicide in Edmonton and FCSS Edmonton.
Since January 2022, The Anchor Men’s Group has hosted 845 men, 231 new participants, in over 72 sessions equalling 144 hours. The participants main reasons for attending are most commonly anxiety and depression, substance use and relationship breakdown. The Anchor Men’s Group facilitators have developed a safe, welcoming environment for men to support each other through common issues. Fathers and sons attend together, friends come to support their buddies and end up staying for themselves. We are so proud to offer this unique and much needed group, for more information check out the Anchor Men’s Group through our website. This Men’s Health Awareness month, Movember Canada is rallying to support men’s mental health and suicide prevention. Check out their amazing campaign.
